Abstract

Abstract The anaerobic fluidized bed was tested on a pilot scale treating primary settled domestic wastewater. Over a range of hydraulic loadings (HRT from 1.67 to 6.67 hours) mean five day BOD and suspended solids concentrations of 17.2 mgL and 30.5 mgL‐1 were achieved. The testing covered a five month period, over an influent temperature range of 10–23° C. Solids were never deliberately wasted over the entire study period. Statistical analysis of the data indicated that influent substrate concentration and organic volumetric loading rate had the most influence on effluent 5 day BOD concentration and % removal.
