Abstract

NUMEROUS investigations concerning new and unidentified growth factors for chicks have been conducted in recent years. These have been reviewed by Hutchings, et al. (1946), Rubin and Bird (1946a) and Petering, et al. (1946).Carrick, et al. (1940) presented evidence for the presence of unidentified growth factors in commerical casein which could be extracted with ethanol and ether. Johnson, et al. (1942) showed that there was a factor present in casein and liver meal which was distinct from vitamin A, vitamin D, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, choline and pyridoxine. Synold, et al. (1943) demonstrated that distillers’ dried solubles contained the unidentified growth factor that is present in commercial casein as well as other growth factors found in dried skimmilk. A continuation of these studies is reported in this paper.EXPERIMENTALA series of trials were conducted to obtain evidence whether distillers’ dried solubles contain a growth factor which is distinct .
