Abstract

This article discusses a design procedure for a real-time voltage monitoring system for an overhead line based on voltage sensors. The system has been developed in the framework of the idea of a digital railway. The procedure includes computation of installation intervals of voltage sensors in the intersubstation area and an algorithm for processing data received from the sensors. The real-time system makes it possible to monitor the state of traction energy system and to determine dislocation of trains and variables of their loads (current and voltage on a current collector). The obtained data can also be used for analysis of operation modes of traction energy system, for control of power equipment, and for selection of methods to improve it and reduce energy losses.
