Abstract
Abstract Rooted in American Reform Judaism, Sh’ma: A Journal of Jewish Responsibility offered a pluralist platform in English for rabbis, theologians, and intellectual leaders to discuss contemporary social, cultural, and political matters within concise articles and respectful published debates. Laying foundations for popular subsequent outlets like Tablet and Moment, Sh’ma extended previous Jewish American journalism’s focus on reporting community news to instead present American Jews’ varying stances on questions of religious observance, Zionism, bioethics, sexuality, international atrocities, and American racial politics, among other pressing concerns.
