Abstract
Abstract Among the ancillary products of a mass Yiddish newspaper industry was the creation of a satire press. This occurred in North America during the first decade of the twentieth century when a number of weekly, monthly, and occasional satire magazines began to appear in significant numbers, mainly in New York. The leading example of the Yiddish satire press was Der groyser kundes, which was published in New York from 1908 to 1927. An unrepentant critic of the Yiddish press, literature, and theater, Der groyser kundes became one of the most popular and original publications on the Jewish street.
