Abstract
In order to improve the corrosion resistance of Mg alloy and broaden its application, the silane/graphene oxide (GO)/silane composite multi-layer coating was fabricated on the surface of Mg alloy by layer-by-layer self-assembled method. The results showed that the as-prepared organic/inorganic composite multi-layer coating significantly improved the corrosion resistance of the Mg alloy. Compared to that of bare AZ31B Mg alloy, the corrosion current density of organic/inorganic composite multi-layer coating was reduced by 4 orders of magnitude, it was ascribed to the excellent corrosion resistance and strong adhesion of silane coating to the surface of Mg alloy and the blocking effect of GO hindering and increasing the penetration path of corrosive medium, such as Cl− and H2O. Moreover, after the composite multi-layer coating was immersed in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 7 day, the composite multi-layer coating still had better corrosion resistance.
