Abstract

In this study, the optimized cost-efficient dipole and bow-tie antenna designs with thickened feeds are derived via simulations for the printed ultra high frequency radio-frequency identification (UHF RFID) tags. The results show that the proposed optimized antenna designs requires significantly less amount of conductive material in achieving the same level of antenna efficiency performance as the ideal copper-trace design. For instance, the saving benefits are around 30 and 65%, respectively, for the dipole and bow-tie configurations when comparing with the conventional flat layer dipole antenna designs. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
