Abstract

The optical lever serves to measure small angular displacements. We use one here in conjunction with a twin photodiode and lock-in amplifier to measure the amplitude and phase of a rotational oscillation. This simple combination permits an extremely low noise level; in our experiment the noise level was 10 -13 rad, or 10 -11rad Hz 1 2 .
