Abstract A model atmosphere in radiative and mechanical equilibrium with T1 = 35,0000 and log g = 4.200 has been calculated. From the strength of H7 and from the electron density the model is found to correspond to spectral type O~ V. The spectral intensity distribution of the emergent flux is computed and it is shown that the integrated flux corresponds to an effective temperature of 44,6000. The emergent flux differs from that of a black body at 44,6000 in the region N ~ i5ooA, but the differences are not so large as in the case of an 09.5 V atmosphere. The excess of radiation over that from a black body at the effective temperature of the atmosphere in the wave-length ranges 912 ~N ~ i5ooA and 228 ~N ~5ooA will affect the estimation of the ionization and excitation of interstellar and circumsteliar material near O~ stars.
