Abstract
The accurate extraction of small parasitic resistances of surface mount components in electromagnetic compatibility modeling is a great challenge. In this paper, a simple yet efficient LC resonant measurement method is proposed to solve this issue. A surface mount capacitor and an inductor with the unknown parasitic resistances are connected in parallel to form an LC resonator. The effect of parasitic resistance on the measured S- parameters is thus magnified so that the measurement error introduced during the de-embedding procedure is relatively diminished. A mobile phone inverted F antenna with LC components is measured to verify the efficiency of the proposed method. In comparison with the direct de-embedding method, the proposed approach demonstrates a higher accuracy in the extraction of parasitic resistance, while it is simple and cost-effective.
