Abstract

Meshed DC grid can improve the control flexibility of the system and the reliability of the power supply. However, the converters implemented in the meshed DC networks cannot provide sufficient control freedoms for power flow adjustment. Therefore, it is necessary to add DC current flow controllers to optimize system operation. This paper proposes an isolated modular multi-level DC transformer (MMDCT) topology with bidirectional power flow control capability. The current flow controller (CFC) module is directly embedded in the transformer and it can operate without external power supplies. A DC power flow control strategy and an energy balance control method based on phase-shift modulation are also proposed in this paper. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed topology, modulation method and control strategy are verified through a MATLAB/Simulink model.
