Abstract

The 149Sm(n, γ) 150Sm reaction has been examined as a function of neutron energy in the range 0.04 eV to 34 eV at the Brookhaven National Laboratory high flux beam reactor. Using a time-of-flight technique, capture γ-ray intensities have been measured both on and between 16 resonances in this region. Resonance spins and level spin and parities in 150Sm up to 2196.7 keV in excitation energy have been deduced from the data. Several new spin and parity assignments have been made. We are able to assign all positive-parity levels below 1820keV to quasi-rotational bands. The level structure of 150Sm is shown to be strikingly similar to that of 152Gd.
