Abstract

This paper presents an optical fiber based position monitoring system, incorporating a high birefringent optical fiber and white-light interferometry. The effects of temperature variation are largely eliminated using a scheme of detecting the relative position within the stroke. A fringe-order identification technique employing two or more broad-band sources is described which can be used to enhance the resolution of the position detection.
