Abstract

There has been an increase in the complexity of clinical examinations and treatments using fluoroscopy; consequently, it is important to measure radiation dose levels. A large area ionisation chamber linked to an electrometer is particularly suited to these measurements in fluoroscopy in which the technique factors, field size and projection direction change throughout the examination. An international study into radiation doses in fluoroscopy and associated digital imaging techniques is being undertaken using, in the main, dose-area product meters. A number of dose-area product meters have been compared against a dosemeter with a calibration traceable to a national standards laboratory. In some instances the dose-area product meters were also compared against a dosemeter used in the extended intercomparison of dosemeters used for quality control in diagnostic radiology.
