Abstract

A dual-channel light pipe has been used for simultaneously observing the populations of atomic oxygen in the ground state 2p4 3P and the first metastable state 2p4 1D. A signal-to-noise ratio of 10 in a time scale of 100 μsec was attained. The ultimate sensitivity is 104 photons/sec with a background count of 1 photon per 10 msec.
