Abstract
Abstract An instrument was designed to identify implicit value positions in secondary school physical education classes. The instrument consisted of three subsections: observation of teacher verbal behavior, observation of class organization, and a questionnaire concerning procedural regulations. The instrument produces scores on six value dimensions: achievement, autonomy, orderliness, privacy, specificity, and universalism. A pilot study was used to determine interobserver agreement (). Reliability was calculated from a two-way ANOVA of the observational data. Reliabilities for the value dimensions ranged from .28 to .86. Modifications in the instrument designed to improve reliability were suggested.
