Abstract

Infrared and Raman Spectra of four new metal (II) quinoline tetracyanonickelate complexes, M(q) 2Ni(CN) 4, M=Mn, Fe, Co and Zn have been investigated. It is proposed that their structure consists of two-dimensional polymeric layers formed with Ni(CN) 4 ions bridged by M(q) 2 cations. The quinoline molecules lie above and below the layers. Several modes of coordinated quinoline have upward wavenumber shifts in comparison to liquid phase values. the general increase in frequency of the quinoline modes with different metals in the complexes is in the order Mn < Fe < Co < Zn. The effective magnetic moments of the complexes are also given.
