Abstract

The article aim ‒ to highlight the stages that illustrate I. Yushchuk’s pedagogical heritage. I. Yushchuk is an outstanding Ukrainian linguist, literary critic, teacher, translator of works by Serbian, Croatian, Lusatian and Slovenian writers, professor, author of more than thirty textbooks and thirty teaching aids on the Ukrainian language, author of the grammar-fantasy story «Three on the Moon» and stories for children «Somewhere in the Morning», Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, one of the founders of Ukrainian «Prosvita» named after Taras Shevchenko, researcher of the Holodomor-genocide of 1932–1933, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, laureate of the Borys Grinchenko All-Ukrainian Prize, Ivan Ohienko All-Ukrainian Prize, Dmytro Nytchenko award. Although I. Yuschchuk was a distinguished scholar, the impact that he had on education in Ukraine, his role in promoting the Ukrainian language requires further studies. The purpose of the article is to highlight the stages in I. Yushchuk’s career. Methods applied: bibliographic, biographical, phenomenological. Besides, the general theoretical methods help to analyze and synthesize, compare, systematize, describe, explain, and generalize the research material. Analyzing I. Yushchuk’s biography, the IV stages in his pedagogical heritage are distinguished. The Ist stage (1957–1959) is the period of I. Yushchuk’s pedagogical activity in the Ludyn secondary school. The IInd stage (1967–1969) reflected his activity as a linguist at the Soviet School publishing house. The IIId stage (1969–1996) is the longest period, so called high solstice in the teacher's activity. The Ivth stage (1996–2021) is the final and lasted 25 years. The end of this stage coincides in time with the teacher’s earthly life. It is concluded that these stages are not homogeneous in terms of time, each being extremely important forming a cornerstone for the subsequent stages.
