Abstract Extract Serological methods for the diagnosis of Brucella ovis infection in sheep have included agglutination (Buddle, 1954 Buddle, M. B. 1954. N.Z.vet.J., 2: 99–99. [Taylor & Francis Online] , [Google Scholar]) and complement fixation (Clapp, 1955 Clapp, K. H. 1955. Aust. vet. J., 31: 27–27. [Crossref] , [Google Scholar]). The agglutination test did not prove to be sufficiently reliable for diagnostic purposes (Buddle, 1956 Buddle, M. B. 1956. Proc. III internat. Cong. anim. Reprod., Cambridge, Sect. II, : 37–37. [Google Scholar]), and the complement fixation test suffered from anti-complementary activity of the antigen and false positive reactions in some sera (Gorrie, 1959 Gorrie, C. J. R. 1959. Aust. vet.
