Abstract

A furnance is described in which single-crystal platelets of cadmium sulfide can be grown under carefully controlled conditions of temperature and carrier-gas composition. Provision is also made for post-growth treatment without disturbing the crystals. A description is given of the fluorescence spectra of crystals grown in various carrier-gas compositions, and it is shown that there is a predictable relationship between growth conditions and fluorescence emission.
