Abstract

With the large-scale application of multi-core technology, the problem of high power consumption brought by multi-core has attracted more and more attention. Dynamic power management (DPM) is widely used in various computer systems with its dynamic and controllable power management. While DPM only works when the components are in idle state. For this case, combining with the characteristics of multi-core system, this paper proposes a dynamic start-up and shut-down model of CPU core in multi-core system. When system load is below the threshold, the tasks running on the original core are migrated and then shut down the core, and when the system load is higher than the threshold, start the closed core to satisfy requirements of the new task. Finally, we implement our model with Cpufreq subsystem, and experiment results show that our method could reduce system power consumption when the core utilization is low.
