Abstract
Abstract We deduce an expression that allows to calculate the small signal gain of a dye laser amplifier from simple measurements of the amplified spontaneous emission. We compare the predictions of this expressions with the results of our previous numerical simulation and with direct measurements of the gain. The expression obtained is a practical way to measure the gain in a dye laser amplifier stage.
