Abstract
Background: Rotator cuff tears are the most common cause of shoulder pain and dysfunction and are often surgically repaired; however retear is the most common complication, with recent studies suggesting that the retear rate varies between 11% and 31%. Advanced patient age has been associated with higher rates of retear, however the exact relationship between age and the chance of rotator cuff retear has not been clearly defined. Therefore the aim of this study was to establish the relationship between patient age and the chance of healing post-rotator cuff repair.
