Abstract

Bearing plays an important role in the engine and machines. The application of bearings in engines and machines increases efficiency, performance, reliability, durability, and minimizes frictions & maintenance. The performance of bearing significantly relies on its material selection, design, and place of application. Researchers & designers are improving the conventional material of bearings by searching for new advanced materials with low-cost and high durability for bearing applications. In past few years, use of various materials in bearing applications has been observed. This paper aims to present an explicit literature review with a focus on various bearing materials. Additionally, in this paper literature review on different defect detection techniques for bearings is also carried out. Therefore, this paper presents different bearing materials, their selection criteria, and defect detection techniques applied to them and available in the literature.
