Abstract

A new thermodynamical model for the description of critical clusters in water–alcohol systems has been developed. The clusters are divided into an interior layer and a unimolecular surface layer. The surface excess of alcohol in the cluster is the same as in macroscopic liquid. The model is applied to binary nucleation of water and ethanol. The predictions of the model agree fairly well with experimental results.
