Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper presents an experimentally verified model for a variable-reluctance machine (VRM), implemented in the MAST™modeling language for use with the Saber® circuit simulator. The Saber model is based on a previously developed analytic model of the VRM which summarizes the terminal magnetization characteristics of the VRM. Saber output is compared to experimental data at two different operating points to demonstrate the ability of the simulator to accurately predict VRM operation over a wide range of operating conditions. The paper includes a discussion of the commutation and current regulation templates which are needed to support VRM simulation.
