Abstract

Various kinds of developments are occurring in the field of infrastructure around the world. To improve the qualities and efficiencies of the concrete to meet the performance for different projects, various materials and chemical admixtures can be added. The concrete performance is determined by the active constituent. Admixtures added in concrete imparts some improvement in the properties of the cement paste. The inclusion of different admixtures creates some reactions between different elements of concrete. Special concrete has gained a quick relevance in the field of wide construction. Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is concrete that can flow by its self-weight or under gravity. The key ingredients of the concrete are as per IS specifications. In this study, experimental performances of self-compacting concrete over conventional concrete have been studied. Marsh conetest has been conducted to assess the compatibility and the optimum dosage by using a superplasticizer, Auramix 300 plus in Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). Auramix 300 plus is a polycarboxylic ether polymer-based superplasticizer used to prepare free flow concrete. It is a high-performance superplasticizer having a water-reducing capacity. Tests for 0 min, 15 min, 45 min were conducted and optimum dosage has been found. The optimum dosage of Auramix 300 plus was obtained as 1.2% by cement weight. By the experimental evaluation, the effect of Auramix 300 plus in the hardened properties especially compressive, flexural, and split tensile strength of conventional and SCC were checked and compared. The bonding effect between the reinforcement and concrete was determined by embedding reinforcement. A visible increase in the strength of self-compacting concrete has been observed.
