Abstract

It is necessary to characterize the air flow pattern and temperature distribution in Operation Theatre (OT) to optimize the indoor air quality to enhance the high performance of hospital. Mostly Laminar air flow system is used in OT, which covered the surgical zone. The temperature draft observed between surgical and nonsurgical area which result in uncomfortable environment to patient and surgeon. To overcome such problem Angular Air Distribution (AAD) system is designed which covered the both area of OT. The performance of AAD system with varying inlet diffuser angle at constant inlet velocity on Scale model of OT is investigated with the help of CFD software and compared with experimental setup. Detail experimental investigation is done on a scale model of OT with the help of a smoke test and camera target method (CTM). Both numerical and experimental results showed a similar pattern of air and temperature distribution for the various design configurations.
