Abstract

This paper was motivated by practical difficulties met by industries in determining which methods of noise abatement should be used in design and remedial noise controls. These difficulties are perpetrated by a lack of confidence in predicted noise levels for valves in production installations. An analysis is presented to show the cost relationships between valve selection, pipe schedule changes, noise reducing flow elements and insulation of pipe runs. Allowance is made for the potential error in predicted noise levels.
