Abstract
In the U.S., precast concrete floor diaphragms are a popular form of construction for parking, residential and commercial facilities. Discrete embedded connections bring together large precast concrete panels and transfer vertical and in-plane forces between panels. A consistent experimental procedure is necessary to meet the requirements of performance-based diaphragm design methodologies. In this paper, the authors propose a seismic design methodology for assessing stiffness, strength, and deformation capacity of precast concrete diaphragm embedded connections. They further offer details on developing a test module, loading setup, load histories, instrumentation, data reduction, reporting, and performance categorization.
