Abstract

In this paper a simple analytical method is proposed to estimate an elastic–plastic strain and stress in the plastic zone ahead of the tip of a stable growing fatigue crack. Analytical estimations are compared with experimental results from digital image correlations (DIC) and integrated finite element (FE) analyses taken from literature. A fairly good agreement is demonstrated between the proposed analytical method and the DIC and FE data.
