Abstract
In Bangladesh, state financial intermediary IDCOL's grant based program so far installed more than 4.19 million solar home (SHS). But access to clean energy without quality energy-efficient household appliances, an issue, yet to receive necessary attention. As a result, 18 million off-grid people using SHSs in rural Bangladesh have no or limited access to quality energy efficient appliances like TV/Fan to improve their daily livelihood. A suitable national scale dissemination program mechanism on energy efficient appliances is necessary to achieve that goal. A brief technical assessment has also been conducted on the available efficient off-grid appliances to assess their appropriateness in the context of SHS systems of IDCOL. Roles of donors, developing partners along with national nodal agencies, regulators, financiers and private agencies are being assessed at length with an expectation that the proposed appliances dissemination mechanism will be able to bring right synergies in favor of household appliances sales uptake in the off-grid solar market of Bangladesh.
