A Consumer Advice on Energy Efficient Use and Purchase of Household Appliances and Lighting

Abstract

The goal of this project, which is executed by the ‘Dutch Agency for Energy and the Environment (Novem)’ by order of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands, is to save energy by achieving energy efficient behaviour towards detached household appliances and lighting. Experiments have shown that 5% to 10% of the domestic energy use can be saved by correct domestic behaviour. This project tries to encourage energy efficient domestic behaviour by developing a set of coherent energy saving behavioural measures, concerning both the energy efficient use of household appliances and lighting as well as the purchase of energy efficient household appliances and lighting. The selection of household appliances and lighting is based on the fact that the presence of these appliances can be easily established and that the advice therefore can be concrete and specific.
