Abstract
Solutions of gossypol in buffered methanol were studied by polarography, triangular-wave voltammetry, controlled-potential coulometry, and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry. The two aldehydic functional groups on gossypol are irreversibly electrochemically reduced to the alcohols. A mechanism is proposed for the reduction.
