Abstract

We propose an efficient power and rate control mechanism on the CDMA forward link for high-speed data services. To apply the zone-based power control mechanism introduced by Yun, Bae and Lim (see Proc. VTC, vol.4, p.2903-2907, May 2001) into the forward link we define a weight function that determines the amount of power resources dedicated to the channel within the whole power of resources of a base station. Simulation results carried under the cdma2000 1/spl times/ environments show that the zone-based power control mechanism yields an improved performance compared with the conventional scheme in terms of the amount of arising interference, power consumption, outage probability, and the traffic throughput which is meaningful especially for high-rate data traffic in the forward link.
