Abstract
In this paper we present an efficient numerical method for locating material interfaces in multi-fluid simulations. Starting from a detailed investigation of the moment-of-fluid reconstruction problem, we develop an efficient procedure for the interface reconstruction, based on pre-computing certain values and mapping the domain of the function describing the interface reconstruction onto these values. The interface tracking method is tested on a range of commonly-seen interface advection test problems, where it is shown to increase the computational efficiency of the moment-of-fluid method by a factor of three, with a negligible change in the accuracy of the method.
