Abstract
We have created an educational simulation of the electric power system of a country. The simulation can be used by high school or university students to get a hands-on experience with some of the complexities of meeting the demand for electrical power, while optimizing for cost and CO2 emission. The simulation parameters are primarily based on real historical data. The simulation is bundled with an instruction manual including background information and the tasks to be completed. The program was first tried out by the contestants of the Leó Szilárd Physics competition in Hungary. The contestants’ result and our experience with the program are also discussed.
