Abstract
This paper is aimed at those involved in providing training in manual handling. The varying needs of different staff groups requiring training are explored and the principles that apply in training in manual handling are identified. The approach used to deal with manual handling tasks (efficient movement) is described and explained. The development of a ‘planning package for training in manual handling’ which enables account to be taken fully of the principles and variables is described and explained. The purpose of the planning package is to enable training programmes to be tailored to the precise needs of trainees. This paper is aimed at those involved in providing training in manual handling.
