Abstract

In present scenario, the use of conventional burnt clay bricks have increased tremendously due to rapid urbanization. In turn, use of conventional burnt bricks has lead to air pollution and loss of top good fertile soil. Secondly, generation of solid wastes from industries needs proper solid waste management. The studies have revealed that recycling of solid wastes will not only solve the problem of solid waste disposal but will also give alternate walling materials. This paper aims at an eco-friendly approach on different industrial wastes for production of alternate walling materials as they contain constituents suitable for their use as quality, cost-effective and appropriate alternative to conventional burnt bricks. The size of brick specimen is taken as 230 mm × 100 mm × 90 mm according to Indian standard for different mix proportions of industrial wastes and other conventional materials. The compressive strength, water absorption and density were studied for different mix proportions. The results show the variations in compressive strength and water absorption for different mixture proportions of different materials. From the present study we conclude that alternate walling materials from stone crusher dust, fly ash and red mud are more suitable and sustainable.
