Abstract

An automatic fog sampling station is presented in this paper which is suited for unattended operation. This system, designed to meet the requirements of our particular sampling protocol, is comprised of an optical fog detector which senses the light backscattered by the droplets, a rotating string collector, a sampling storage/fractionation unit and a computer which drives the operations of the station and acquires the sampling information. The sampling operational problems are discussed, and the results from an extended fog sampling period are reported.
