Abstract
An automated procedure, with o-phthaldialdehyde as a fluorogenic reagent for the determination of total α-amino acids in natural waters is given. The response of different amino acids, dipeptides and amino sugars has been tested as well as the interference of other nitrogen-containing substances. The method is well suited to determinations of the amino acid content in the range 0.05–15 μM with an analysis rate of 20 samples per hour.
