Abstract
The available theoretical electron excitation data for Fe IX-Fe XIV are assessed and recommendations are made for improvement in future work. The averaged collision strengths are obtained using the interactive, graphical programs of Burgess and Tully. Accurate calculations for these ions are very difficult to carry out because of the complexity of the n = 3 target wave functions. It is evident that a substantial amount of work is still required for some of the ions to obtain results with a high accuracy.
