Abstract

A rapid method for the assay of bilirubin UDP glucuronyl transferase in liver samples is described. It consists of three simple steps: homogenization of the sample, enzymic incubation and determination of the conjugated bilirubin by using sulfanilic diazonium salt. Assays on needle biopsies are possible with this technique. This method has been applied to demonstrate a decrease of the hepatic bilirubin UDP glucuronyl transferase in 5 patients with Gilbert's disease.
