Abstract
The fuzzy set theoretic approach is preferable for image contrast enhancement, because the low pictorial information content of a low contrast image is due to vagueness rather than randomness. A new set of fuzzifiers and contrast intensification operators is introduced by following the nature of the human visual response characteristics. This forces the original image to match with the requirement of a subjective evaluation procedure. This technique is more general when the image is processed for visual interpretation. The effectiveness of the technique is illustrated with the help of standard experimental image.
