Abstract

The backward scatter that occurred with underwater light spreading is very strong, and it can occur a serious background noise in underwater imaging which causes underwater image fuzzy. So it is difficult to detect underwater dim targets. The traditional methods of underwater dim targets detection have some limitations on image contrast, gray scale or size of target, and so on. We deduced the model of back-scattering noise by studying the characteristics of underwater image in this paper. And then we used the model to detect the underwater dim targets.
