Abstract

In the routine testing of blood samples for carriers of bacillary white diarrhea, many of the laboratory procedures become very monotonous and tiresome when a large number of samples are handled. This is especially true of the addition of a measured amount of antigen to tubes containing blood serum. When only a small number of samples are tested, it is customary to add the antigen by means of a pipette. This method is especially tiresome and there is always the possibility of adding too large an amount of antigen. A burette fitted with a length of rubber tubing and a pinchcock is sometimes used, but this too has its disadvantages. Usually the operator has to lower and raise his head in transfering the delivery tube and in reading off the flow of antigen. If the burette is of small caliber and of such volume as not to require frequent filling .
