Abstract

This paper presents an anodic phase modulation charge balancing method for implantable biphasic bipolar stimulator integrated circuit (IC). The proposed IC, designed using $0.18-\mu m$ CMOS process, consists of a current-mode electrical stimulator with active charge balancing circuit. The proposed active charge balancer uses a simple digital logic circuit consisting of subtractor, comparator, and D-latch and can perform accurate charge balancing by adjusting the magnitude of the anodic current pulse according to the measured net charge.
