Abstract

The nature of the axial plastic strains resulting from cyclic plastic torsion of tubes with a steady axial load are examined. An anisotropic yield surface model is used to predict the axial plastic strains within a cycle of shear strain. The steady state cyclic shear stress-strain curve is used as material data to predict the cumulative axial strains over a number of cycles. The proposed yield surface model predicts the cumulative strains quite well for a wide range of cyclic strains and end loads and for cyclic strain hardening and softening materials.
