Abstract

This article presented the free vibration analysis of tapered rectangular functionally graded material (FGM) plates resting on the two-parameter (Winkler and Pasternak) elastic foundation model. Higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) to satisfy the traction free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surface of the sigmoid FGM (S-FGM) plate. The material properties are varied according to the two simple power-law distributions of volume fractions of the constituents. The thickness of the plate linearly varies in the y–direction to both sides of the middle plane. The variational Hamilton principle establishes the equation of motions, and Galerkin-Vlasov’s method is used to solve the equation of motion. The free vibration is evaluated with the inclusion of an elastic foundation with different taper ratios. A parametric study has been investigated for the different span ratio, aspect ratio, volume exponent index, taper ratio, and combination of elastic foundation.
