Abstract
Self Help Groups (SHGs) are an important contributor to the development of rural areas, social capital, technology and knowledge transfer and empowerment of poor rural women. SHGs are a more efficient tool to alleviate rural poverty as it focuses on educating, providing technical and non-technical training, institutional credit and marketing facility to rural peoples. This study aims to investigate the social and economic status of poor rural women members of SHGs, examine the attitude of poor rural women toward SHGs and propose policy interventions. This study investigates the influence of training on members of SHGs based on its impact on attitude. The analysis of the outcomes is performed on the construct of attitude. This study collected data through Likert scale type questions consisting of 14 different items and data collected from 60 SHGs, to analyze the reliability coefficient of Cronbach's alpha is used. The findings of the t-test based on mean values regarding the attitude of members of SHGs indicated that after receiving training the members of SHGs showed a positive change in their attitude under all the adopted dimensions that are betterment in the standard of social and economic status, training and education, entrepreneurial skills and marketing quality and banking and credit facilities.
